"Steals on Wheels" (c) Auto Theft Education Course

Session #1
1. To examine and discuss why youths steal cars.

2. To identify the number of young people involved in auto-theft.

3. To look at the monetary impact auto-theft has on the community.

4. To learn the potential consequences of further auto-theft offenses.

5. To better understand the Juvenile Justice system and how further illegal behavior could impact the future.


Session #2
1. To view behavior in relation to community and personal values.

2. To look at peer pressure and its effects on behavior.

3. To explore decision-making skills that, encourage responsible choices.

4. To help parents and guardians better understand the issues related to their child's illegal actions and begin the process of addressing the behavior.

AUTO THEFT STATISTICS AND FACTS

• In 2004 the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, released their study on auto-theft disclosing the state statistics on auto-theft.

• A total of 12,958 motor vehicle thefts were reported by law enforcement agencies throughout Oklahoma. Representing a total value of $70,822,024

• A total of 2,074 vehicle theft were cleared by arrest or exceptional means for a clearance rate of 16%

• Juvenile arrests made up 33.9% of all motor vehicle arrests. Of the Juvenile arrests, 56% were 13 to 15 year old offenders.

• The recovery rate for motor vehicle theft was 68.2% with 8,835 recovered.

• The average value of motor vehicles stolen during 2004 was $5,465.51
